Report – Intercity Meeting at Rotary International District 2770

On January 23rd 2017, Dr. Kenji Shibuya, President of JIGH, gave a speech on ‘Polio Eradication and Rotary’s Contributions’ at the Rotary International District 2770’s Intercity Meeting.

Around 150 members from District 2770 attended the meeting, and topics such as the rapid changes in the field of global health and polio, the current status of polio eradication and the contributions made by Rotary International were discussed.

The Rotary International created their ‘PolioPlus’ program in 1985, contributed to the launch of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988, and have supported global polio eradication efforts economically, politically and diplomatically, donating around 350 million US dollars for polio eradication activities during 2013-2019 (around 10% of total funds necessary).
