On January 31st 2016, the Yomiuri newspaper’s medical care/public health site “yomiDr.” published an article titled “Global health… protecting everyone’s lives.”

The article describes global health as one of the major agenda items of interest for this May’s G7 Ise-Shima Summit, specifically for issues seen in both developed and developing countries, such as measures against infectious diseases and promotion of prenatal care. To solve global issues and simultaneously sustain and protect human health, international cooperation is vital, and Japan is expected to contribute to tackle global health issues, including the redesigning of universal health coverage both in overseas and in Japan’s super-aging society.

In the article, Dr. Kenji Shibuya, President of JIGH, states “Recently, even in developing countries, there is an increase in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and aging population issues. Given such backdrop, Japan can be a leader to contribute to the world’s better health risk management.”
