India has been off the list of polio endemic countries since 2014.

However, it now faces the risk of seeing polio back within their borders, due to the ongoing fight against the infectious disease in their neighbouring country, Pakistan. In order to take preventative measures, the government conducted a mass immunisation campaign on January 29th, 2017. Over 60 doctors visited the country to support this campaign, including members from Japan. They visited temples and neighbourhoods in low-income regions on the outskirts of the cities, and administered vaccinations to over 400,000 children that gathered.
